About Uganda

Uganda is located in East-Central Africa, west of Kenya and east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with terrain consisting mostly of a plateau with a rim of mountains. The climate is tropical and generally rainy with two dry seasons, and the country is landlocked with many lakes and rivers, including Lake Victoria. Kampala serves as the capital, and Uganda has a population of approximately 50.86 million people who speak English, Ganda, Swahili, and Arabic.

Uganda has a low-income, primarily agrarian East African economy that has been hurt by COVID-19, with lower oil prices threatening prior sector investments. Key industries include sugar processing, brewing, tobacco, cotton textiles, cement, and steel production. The country possesses natural resources including copper, cobalt, hydropower, limestone, salt, arable land, and gold. Uganda has high female labor force participation though it remains undervalued, and endemic corruption is a persistent challenge.
