Togo

Togo is located in Western Africa, bordering the Bight of Benin between Benin and Ghana, with terrain ranging from gently rolling savanna in the north to a low coastal plain with extensive lagoons and marshes in the south. The climate is tropical, hot and humid in the south and semiarid in the north. Lome serves as the capital, and Togo has a population of approximately 9.14 million people who speak French, Ewe, Mina, Kabye, and Dagomba.

Togo has a low-income West African economy that is primarily agrarian and has a deep-water port that serves as a growing international shipping locale. Key industries include phosphate mining, agricultural processing, cement, handicrafts, textiles, and beverages. The country’s natural resources include phosphates, limestone, marble, and arable land. Togo faces extremely high rural poverty and is working to improve privatization and public budgeting transparency.
