Solomon Islands

Solomon Islands is a country located in Oceania in the South Pacific Ocean, east of Papua New Guinea, covering an area of approximately 28,896 square kilometers. As of 2025, Solomon Islands has a population of about 738,774, with English as the official language and Melanesian pidgin as the lingua franca alongside 120 indigenous languages. The country is mostly rugged mountains with some low coral atolls and has a tropical monsoon climate with few temperature and weather extremes. Honiara serves as the capital, and the government operates as a parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy.

Solomon Islands has a lower-middle-income Pacific island economy with a GDP of $1.76 billion and a GDP per capita of $2,500, driven by fish, mining, and timber. Key agricultural products include oil palm fruit, coconuts, sweet potatoes, yams, taro, fruits, pulses, vegetables, cocoa beans, and cassava, while natural resources include fish, forests, gold, bauxite, phosphates, lead, zinc, and nickel. The unemployment rate is 1.4% as of 2025, with a life expectancy of 70.7 years. The country is natural resource rich but environmentally fragile, with a growing Chinese economic relationship and recent infrastructure damage due to social unrest.
