Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan is a country located in Central Asia, west of China and south of Kazakhstan, covering an area of approximately 199,951 square kilometers. As of 2025, Kyrgyzstan has a population of over 6.2 million, with Kyrgyz as the state language spoken by 71.4%, alongside Uzbek and Russian. The country is entirely mountainous, dominated by the peaks of the Tien Shan range with an average elevation of 2,750 meters, experiencing a dry continental climate that varies from polar in high mountains to subtropical in the Fergana Valley. Bishkek serves as the capital, and the government operates as a parliamentary republic.

Kyrgyzstan has a lower-middle-income economy with a GDP of $17.48 billion and a GDP per capita of $7,000, driven by small machinery, textiles, food processing, cement, shoes, lumber, furniture, gold, and rare earth metals. Key agricultural products include milk, potatoes, maize, sugar beets, wheat, and barley, while natural resources include abundant hydropower, gold, rare earth metals, coal, oil, and natural gas. The unemployment rate is 3.5% as of 2025, though 33.3% of the population lives below the poverty line. Kyrgyzstan faces challenges including corruption, limited investment, and vulnerability to political turmoil, though remittances and growing hydroelectricity and tourism sectors provide economic support.
