Honduras

Honduras is a country located in Central America, bordering the Caribbean Sea between Guatemala and Nicaragua, and bordering the Gulf of Fonseca on the North Pacific Ocean between El Salvador and Nicaragua, covering an area of approximately 112,090 square kilometers. As of 2024, Honduras has a population of over 9.5 million, with Spanish as the official language alongside various Amerindian dialects. The country features mostly mountains in the interior with narrow coastal plains, experiencing a subtropical climate in lowlands and temperate conditions in the mountains. Tegucigalpa serves as the capital, and the government operates as a presidential republic.

Honduras has the second-fastest-growing economy in Central America, with a GDP of $37.09 billion and a GDP per capita of $6,600, driven by sugar processing, coffee, woven and knit apparel, wood products, and cigars. Key agricultural products include sugarcane, oil palm fruit, maize, bananas, and coffee, while natural resources include timber, gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, and hydropower potential. The literacy rate is 88.2% with a life expectancy of 73.0 years. Despite economic growth, Honduras faces massive challenges including a 64.1% poverty rate, high income inequality, systemic corruption, and vulnerability to hurricanes, though declining violent crime and enormous remittances provide some economic support.
