About Georgia
Georgia is a country located in Southwestern Asia along the Black Sea, between Turkey and Russia, covering an area of approximately 69,700 square kilometers. As of 2024, Georgia has a population of about 4.9 million, with Georgian as the official language spoken by 87.6% of the population, alongside Azeri, Armenian, and Russian. The country is largely mountainous, featuring the Great Caucasus Mountains in the north and the Lesser Caucasus Mountains in the south, with a warm and pleasant Mediterranean-like climate along the Black Sea coast. Tbilisi serves as the capital, and the government operates as a semi-presidential republic.
Georgia’s economy is upper-middle-income and fast-growing, with a GDP of $33.78 billion and a GDP per capita of $25,000, driven by industries including steel, machine tools, mining of manganese and copper, chemicals, wood products, and wine production. Key agricultural products include milk, grapes, potatoes, maize, and tangerines, while natural resources include timber, hydropower, manganese, iron ore, and copper. The country has a high literacy rate of 99.7% and an unemployment rate of 11.5% as of 2024. Georgia pursues European integration, though EU accession talks have faced challenges, and the country continues to develop its role as a regional economic hub in the South Caucasus.
