Federated States of Micronesia

Federated States of Micronesia is an island country located in the western Pacific Ocean, consisting of over 600 islands spread across four states, covering a total land area of approximately 702 square kilometers. As of 2025, Micronesia has a population of over 114,000, with English as the official language. The islands feature volcanic and coral island terrain with lush vegetation and tropical climate. Palikir serves as the capital.

Micronesia’s economy is based primarily on subsistence agriculture and fishing, with significant financial assistance from the United States under the Compact of Free Association. Key resources include fish, particularly tuna, and limited agricultural products including coconuts and breadfruit. The country faces challenges including geographic isolation, vulnerability to climate change and rising sea levels, and limited economic opportunities. Micronesia maintains strong ties with the United States, which provides defense, economic support, and access to US labor markets.
