About Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso is a landlocked country located in West Africa, bordered by Mali, Niger, Benin, Togo, Ghana, and Cote d’Ivoire, covering an area of approximately 274,200 square kilometers. As of 2025, Burkina Faso has a population of over 23 million, with French as the official language and numerous indigenous languages widely spoken. The country features mostly flat terrain with rolling plains and occasional hills, experiencing a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons. Ouagadougou serves as the capital.

Burkina Faso’s economy is primarily agricultural, with cotton as the main export crop alongside gold mining, which has become a significant source of revenue. The country faces substantial development challenges including poverty, limited infrastructure, and security threats from extremist groups operating in the Sahel region. Despite these difficulties, Burkina Faso continues to develop its mining sector and agricultural potential while working to improve education and healthcare access in one of the world’s least developed countries.
