Brazil is the largest country in South America, covering an area of approximately 8.5 million square kilometers, bordered by every South American country except Chile and Ecuador. As of 2025, Brazil has a population of over 218 million, with Portuguese as the official language. The country features diverse geography including the Amazon rainforest, Brazilian Highlands, and extensive Atlantic coastline, with tropical, temperate, and semiarid climate zones. Brasilia serves as the capital.

Brazil is one of the world’s largest economies, with a diverse industrial base including aerospace, automotive, mining, and agriculture. The country is a global leader in agricultural exports, producing soybeans, coffee, sugar, beef, and poultry, while its energy sector benefits from substantial hydropower and biofuels. Major challenges include income inequality, deforestation in the Amazon, and political instability. Despite these issues, Brazil remains a key BRICS member and a major global player in environmental policy, trade, and regional leadership.
