About Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan is a country located in Southwestern Asia along the Caspian Sea, between Iran and Russia, covering an area of approximately 86,600 square kilometers. The country features the large Kur-Araz Lowland, much of which lies below sea level, with the Great Caucasus Mountains to the north and the Karabakh Upland to the west. The climate is dry and semiarid steppe, with Baku situated on the Apsheron Peninsula extending into the Caspian Sea. Baku serves as the capital.

Azerbaijan’s economy is heavily dependent on petroleum and natural gas, with the energy sector dominating exports and government revenue. The country also holds significant iron ore and bauxite reserves, supporting a growing industrial base. Key agricultural products include fruits, vegetables, and cotton, while the country continues to develop its non-energy sectors to diversify the economy. With its strategic location along the Caspian Sea and its role as an energy corridor between Asia and Europe, Azerbaijan plays an increasingly important role in regional energy security and trade.
