Angola

Angola is a country located in Southern Africa along the South Atlantic Ocean, between Namibia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, covering an area of approximately 1.25 million square kilometers. As of 2025, Angola has a population of over 38.9 million, with Portuguese as the official language alongside numerous indigenous languages including Umbundu and Kimbundu. The landscape features a narrow coastal plain rising to a vast interior plateau, with a semiarid climate in the south and a hot, rainy season in the north. Luanda serves as the capital, and the government operates as a presidential republic.

Angola’s economy is heavily dependent on oil, with petroleum and diamonds as the primary exports alongside significant iron ore and phosphate reserves. The GDP stands at $80.4 billion with a GDP per capita of $7,300, though the unemployment rate is 14.1% as of 2025. Key agricultural products include cassava, bananas, maize, and sweet potatoes, while the country faces challenges including widespread poverty, rising inflation, and currency depreciation. Angola exited OPEC in 2023 and continues to seek economic diversification beyond its oil-dependent model through agricultural and infrastructure development.
